Recanati
Behind the hill of the Conero, you can find Recanati, known around the world as the birthplace of the poet Giacomo Leopardi. Well-trained guides lead tourists inside Palazzo Leopardi and its adjoining library. Outside the noble residence, all the places made famous by Leopardi’s poems can be found: the Colle dell’Infinito (the hill of infinity), Silvia’s house, and the remains of the ancient Sant’Agostino Tower which inspired the composition of the Passero Solitario (Solitary Sparrow). In this splendid little city, surrounded by walls from 1200, you can also admire masterpieces by Lorenzo Lotto at Villa Colloredo Mels and in the Church of San Domenico.
